A 'back specialist' i used to use found this on every horse I asked him to check over a number of years. Everyone, without fail, regardless of age and use. So I changed and haven't had mention if it since. My understanding from this person was that it was wear and tear and nothing I could do other than encourage correct carriage and ensure there was no more sensitivity. But he may have been talking bullpoo!
Do you know what type it is? Ossifying (aka kissing spines) is probably the most talked about and is treatable with various types of treatment depending how far developed it is....
Hi, It is bony growth that bridges between the veterbre on the underside. On the xray she had no sign of kissing spines. Without expensive bone scans the vet couldn't tell if it was ative or not. We have to bring her back into work to see if she shows signs of pain ( she has been turned away for a year). I have heard conflicting advice as to whether horses can work with this or not.
Thank you I have my fingers crossed too. If it hasn't settled in the year she has been out the prognosis is very poor and she doesn't take to retirement very well so I am hoping for a miracle.
