I went to visit some colleges to do my degree after 6th form (due to start yr13 this september, so will be going september 2014), and the financial adviser started talking about sponsorship to help towards costs. I'm taking my horse with me, as the degree is equine related therefore I can improve my riding/take my BHS exams etc when i'm there - but I have no idea where to start!!!

Who do I ask? How do I approach them? Has anyone done this before? - I didn't think of this as a possibility until he mentioned it!

Thanks in advance!

If you are doing a foundation or bachelors degree, then you will be eligible for support from Student Finance. If you are doing an FdSc or BSc, then there are a few grants available hither and thither for students partaking in a first science degree. Also, the Local council or county council may be able to provide you with a grant.

Look on the websites of some of the bigger university's (Southampton is a good one), as these give you a very good idea of the various funds, grants, bursaries and loans that are available.

Thank you, I have looked into grants/loans and will be sorting that all out with student finance England if I get any offers (fingers crossed). I'm moving away from home (my 3 main choices being 2+hrs away) so I'm also looking into possible other alternatives :)

Another possibility is seeing if there is a part time groom job nearby, that will let you live in. That way you earn, cut your living costs and have job experience when you graduate.

As reading for a degree 'full time' involves about 10-15 hours contact time per week and 10-15 hours self study, fitting in a part time job shouldn't be difficult.
