Spooked Horse swims out to sea!!!

My friends pony did this once , luckily her very fit husband swan after it caught it and got it back to shore ( brave since it was the north sea in Febuary) he was seriously cold when he got back to shore the pony was fine not concerned at all it acted as though nothing odd had happened at all.

Well done RLNI!

No trouble with government cuts for them, the government don't give them anything, they are purely volunteers and have always relied on fund raising and donations. I hope the owner of the horse makes a donation to them.

Why is it that if a horse goes into the sea, for whatever reason, they just keep going. Is it because once they are swimming they are unable, or don't know how, to turn themselves round?

No thats not the case.

When I take my mare down to the sea she hates the waves, we have to go in backwards. we have a swim then she always heads for the shore

Horses can swim a big circle / loop but they cannot instantly turn themselves around from swimming in one direction to head back to shore without the aid of a person. Does anyone remember many years ago a young racehorse on Wallasey beach dumping it's rider after being chased by 2 loose dogs and swimming out to sea and drowning? The tidal current was so strong they could not save the poor horse.
