Do your horses get spookier out hacking as they get fitter? This seems to be happening to me, I backed Ind 8 weeks ago and shes jumping at everything at the mo out on the road(she beggining to get fairly fit) but was not like this 2/3 weeks ago(and is the most laid back horse ever), I blame spring grass and feeling well!!!

I reckon its more the spring grass as my boys at it too. So so spooky. I bought him as a just backed 4 yr old and he was wonderful at first then started trying all sorts on from spookiness to napping then settled down again.

My gelding is more spooky now as a fit 6yr old then the first few weeks after being broken! He's so funny dancing sideways past things, snorting like a stallion. I put it down to being fit!

I think you have pretty much answered your own question there

,also the fact she only been backed 8wks will contribute, they all try it on!!youngsters tend to get bored very quickly and will test your patience and see what you are prepared to put up with!

I have had to stop nearly all hard feed.My tb is coming into work slowly after surgery he was fine the first 2 months just walking out, this week hes tried to kill me 5 times.Nearly sat on a car bonnet the other day doing rein back after a tractor passed us.He normally walks past everything ok hes gone back to bucking and rodeo and Im turning into a nervous wreck .I have to hack out again in the morning cant use the school because its to hard for him and Im getting a bit worried how he is going to behave.Does anybody want him left in my will if he kills me in the morning.

If it's any consolation (probably not!) my 16yo IDxTB is ridiculously spooky out hacking at this time of year. He is quite a spooky chap by nature, but he becomes a real t*t in spring! Usually he comes through it and we have lovely, relaxed summer hacks, so I guess I'm saying hang on in there!
