hi all, daughter has a new mare(chestnut with 4 white socks hehe)i may live to regret that one!! anyway horse is very very spooky and is a total tart when in season, tail vertical and squirting to anything that comes near her and although she is quite spooky seems to be worse when in season i have experience using regumate as we had to use it with our last mare(why oh why my daughter wanted another mare and not a gelding, but thats another story:eek:) so the question is will regumate quieten the spookiness do you think??

Regumate certainly helped in the case of my little mare.My 15yr old, seen it, done it "super pony" became a jibberring wreck, anything that moved made her jump and kick out, tail right up like your description. Birds, squirrells, cows, dogs in gateways, but especially horses/ponies being a bit flighty in fields. She had been 101% in all traffic and became most erratic, particularly with anything with a trailer attached (rattley). All normal checks carried out (back, teeth, saddle, eyes etc) with nothing showing up. Only visible symptom was continual "winking", as if in season. As it was Winter, as opposed to Spring, I consulted my Vet and he suggested Regumate, rather as a last resort.(he did suggest a psychiatrist if it failed, not sure if he meant for horse or me!!) 10 days on, 5 days off and 10 days on again, then STOP. After the first 7 days I had "perfect pony " back again! PHEW. The thoughts are that she might have had a retained follicle and the Regumate re-established her cycles. It is expensive but should you need to use it on a more constant basis I have heard that the pig version is cheaper, or you may be able to move onto something like NAF Oestruss (sp?).

thanks for that j&s i really dont mind the cost if it works, she is on oestress now and its doing nothing, will be speaking to my vet tomorrow, hopefully its the answer ;)
