The spooky pony has been off work for about 10 days now since coming in limping the day after a show---thence his complaint about being in pony jail last week!
After a great deal of confusion about which leg he was actually limping on, a visiting farrier said it was the off hind, and pointed out a bruise on the sole. I had been thinking it was the near hind, but what do I know?? And there was clearly a bruise there!
He's been hanging about, first in the starvation paddock, sorry, the pony jail, and now back with his friends. His limp has gradually improved, to the point where he's sound in walk, and much better in trot.
Today, his trimmer was out, and she also confirmed the bruise, but thinks he's lame on the left hind, which I thought originally. She investigated his stifle, and he was pretty unhappy about that. She thinks he probably pulled something leaping about on the wet grass at the show, trying to avoid people attaching rosettes to his bridle.
So now I'm wondering if maybe he was lame on both hinds, and was limping more or less on each, depending on which hurt more at that moment!
Nothing much to do about it other than give it more time, I know, but I just needed to have a bit of a whinge.
