What should I do............... I have a fantastic horse everything I could possibly want and more, he has on a couple of occasions started rearing when he is spooked by another horse (if the other horse gets silly backs into him or lurches forward) so far it has only happened twice. The last rear was a big one I know you should keep moving forward but to be honest it happens so quickly he is up before you know it. Everyone is telling me to move him on but I really don't want to. He does not do this any other time, he is 13 years old (he has been there and done it all type) I don't think he is napping, the first occasion was when the other horse spooked when stepping on a branch, the other horse lurched forward in fright, my horse lept forward and then reared he was perfectly ok and calm within seconds....I know rearing is the biggest danger any advice would be appreciated. Does he go or stay????????:(

When you say "move him on" do you mean sell him or do you mean push him forward?

I would find yourself a good local instructor and have a few lessons and a good chat with them before making any decisions. What area are you in?

Hi hun, don t sell him for a few mistakes, i would go and have a few lessons with someone pro its money well worth spending there are good instructors out there example Mary Marsh and im sure she will travel to you and i do know if there is a problem she will sort it!!!!! she even rides them herself which i like so she knows if its rider error or the horse, any pro person will want to make sure that Back, teeth and tack have been checked so they know they are not in any pain, it just maybe taking the micheal and been a bit naughty and maybe needs to be sorted just incase it gets more often!!! good luck and let us know how you get on!!!

Hi Fuzzle Thanks for your reply you have summed up how I feel, I really don't want to sell him - I do think that its maybe because the other horse that we are hacking with gets a bit silly too so he goes wayhay! could you PM Mary Marsh details and a bit more info please - I will let you know how it goes thanks so much for advice
