Hey,

I don't normally post in here, but i've been browsing the sport horse breed database website and i was wondering if someone could explain to me the following things:

- What the Life Number is

- What the Family Number is

- And what the Level of Progeny means?

Thank you in advance!

level of progeny - number and highest level of progeny in a discipline
E.g. 25-Dr2 38-Ev3 72-Sj1 means this horse produced 25 Dressage horses, best level European Championships. 38 Eventers, best level Nations Cup. 72 Show Jumpers, best level Olympic/World Championships

Hi

There is a help page available which you will find by clicking the ? in the top header.

Life number , every horse has a registration number.

Family number. You could include a Tattoo mark or a Stamm line number.

Personally I am using the data base to reasearch Cleveland Bays and use the family number as the CBHS stud book reg number.

Think the best way is to use it how it works for you, see how other horses of the same studbook or family are listed.

To add to what Aredis has said - I think you will find Life No. is the UELN i.e. the unique european life number now issued to all horses in addition to their stud book number.

Every passport should contain this number. And interestingly under EU law if your passport is sent away for an overstamp (as happens in France) you should be given 'temporary paperwork' which included the UELN.

Family number is dictated by the tail female line, in otherwords nothing to do with what stallion she is by. The TB's on the data base go back to the 1700's and some the 1600's. My mare is from family 14 and has 32 dams on the page.

The warmblood families won't go back this far and some only have a couple of dams on the page. The Holsteiners have Stamm lines or female family numbers.

It tells you at the bottom of the page who the stallions tail stallion line is too.
