The right (at an annual cost or ownership) to shoot and/or fish the area of land to which you have the said sporting rights.

You see thats what I thought, however talking to a friend they said it includes lamping(lurchers, rabbits of course), and hunting, which is why he retained the sporting rights on his land, according to him, if antis bought it he could still let the hunt over it and also use it for lamping. Is that right?

Much land gets parcelled up and sold to small owners, with the original estate retaining the sporting rights for hunting and shooting purposes. The new owners just have to abide as it is all in the contracts when they buy.

That is right. The sporting rights to the land mean that the individual who owns those rights (but not necessarily the land) can continue to conduct their sport even if the antis bought the land (but not the rights).

So why aren't all of us dumb a*ses retaining the sporting rights when we sell land then? It would certainly prevent hunt country getting smaller!
