Ok this may be a silly question but is there any practical difference between Bob Martin's Spot On and Frontline? I have always used Spot On on the cat, it seems to work very well. New pup has a couple of fleas, so I am wondering is there any need to shell out for Frontline if Spot On works as well? There is quite a difference in price, which makes me wonder...

bob martain is rubbish if an animal has fleasi have tried them all when at kennels and frontline is the best, you can get it at places like country wide for a lot cheaper than at vets. bob martain is ok to keep up to date but would always use frontline on mine.

My vets say that supermarket sold products don't work, and that's why the dog/cat owners then come to them to buy Frontline, which does.

Bob Martin stuff is rubbish. I would never buy a flea treatment that you can get at any supermarket! If you want something that will work use Frontline, or, if you want to waste your money then use Bob Martin. To sell Frontline you must be a SQP or a Vet. TBH Vets charge way over the odds for Frontline and wormers, i would never pay the prices they charge for them. Try your local Feed Merchant or Tack shop for Frontline, i think you will be surprised.

Frontline is required by DEFRA when you are returning from abroad with your dog - Bob Martin is not mentioned - think it says it all!!

Bob Martin's contains Permethrin, which is really poisionous in cats, and even though you would be putting it on the pup the cat might still come into contact with it. It results in vomiting, lack of co-ordinatation and convulsions and if left too long there is nothing you can do.

Frontline doesn't have any Permethrin in, so although you are looking to pay more you won't get a huge vets bill or a very sick and sorry cat. It lasts 3 months too whereas the BM only lasts one before the effects begin to wear off. Depending on pup's age you can get Frontline spray too.

Hope this helps

Frontline drops do work, we've always used them, and my boys have never had a problem with fleas! Could it be that the spray is a better money spinner for them? Just a thought.

Nudibranch, you can buy lots of vet supplied meds, including Frontline and all your wormers from www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk , way cheaper than the vet. Once your pups full grown and you can stock up in larger quantities, it gets cheaper still.

bob martin's is highly poisonous to cats - if the cat even rubs up against the dog after you've applied it then it can poison it and kill it - we get so many bob martin's poisoned cats in. i've also treated cats with vomiting and seizures after they've had the cat stuff on!!!!! that's enough to make me avoid it!

frontline is the only stuff allowed if you've travelled your pet abroad so DEFRA must think it works. personally i prefer stronghold for use in this country - works better than Frontline but of course you cant get Stronghold from the chemist.

Frontline is no longer recommended by the pet travel scheme! All it does is kill fleas not repel them you want advocate or advantage (available from the vets)

Surely it is better for them to be killed than repelled though? Otherwise when a dog/cat that hasn't hat any flea treatments comes by they will all attatch themselves to it instead, whereas the Frontline kills them so they are destroyed rather than avoided.

Rinkydink, those prices are way more than we charge in the shop

. Why not try your local Feed Merchant (or another SQP) for Frontline. I haven`t found an internet site yet that is cheaper than us. I`m not advertising BTW, don`t do mail order.

Really? I thought I was doing well getting them cheaper than at the vet....or maybe I'm thinking of the Drontal? So long since I ordered cos I tend to get them in bulk.

Well whatever, thanks for the tip, I'll have a look next time I go for feed....I'm all for saving the OH's hard earned cash

one of the vets at our practice wasn't allowed back into England the other week because she had treated with Stronghold. they made her use Frontline before coming back into the UK.
