We inherited some incredible weeds when we bought the new place in May - didn;t manage to get round to spraying them all in the spring

Is there any point in doing it now? - grass growing like mad, we have buttercup, nettles, thistles, docks etc and a choice of Headland Polo or mix of Agritox/ Depitox in the shed available

I agree with SP, except for ragwort, where topping now will put it back into vegetative growth - then you can hit it with the spray. We had great success last year doing this, when we were not able to spray in spring.

Thanks both, no rag, we cut it for hay (my fatties will be able to take their time picking through all the rubbish to find bits they will eat) and we've had cows on it since to stop it bolting - just wondered whether an autumn spray was ever worth it - bottles say you can do it twice a year but I was always told to do it in May

Most sprays need to be absorbed into the plants, which means they will be most effective when the plants are growing strongly. You could spray now, but most plants die off or go dormant in the next few weeks and also will have seeded - you will get the seedlings in the spring, so best save your money and spray when they are all growing and before they go to seed.
