Hi Guys

I was looking at getting a friend a pair of the sprenger stirrups for Christmas as she has been a great help to me over the past few months and she struggles with her joints. However, they are very pricey! But are the equivalents really as good (derby house, etc) as i don't want to give her a cheaper pair if they aren't as good as it would make me feel that i wasn't showing my true appreciation, if you get what i mean!

Any advice and opinions would be greatly received.

Thanks
Jeni

I have equitogg ones off eBay. They are great and get really sore now if I ride in normal ones. I had previously tried the ones that are hinged at the base and didn't like them but the ones with the rubber are hinged higher up and are much better. Mind you still jump in my normal ones as they seem to give a bit more security.

The cheaper copies are not as safe as the Sprenger due to the fact they only move backwards and forwards therefore, as another forum member found out, they can collapse and trap the foot in the stirrup in event of a fall.

The new Thorowgood ones move six ways apparently (sprenger move 4 ways), think they were about £58. Have to say my I have Sprenger and Shires but will be replacing the Shires with the Thorowgood ones, they do definitely help my joints though.

Thanks Guys, so the general feeling is the Shire's are good, but nothing really beats the Sprengers!

Will investigate the thorowgood ones and then see what i can and can't afford.

Thanks again
Jeni
