I'm looking at getting something along the lines of these http://www.adamshorsesupply.com/browse.cfm/4,32.html for dressage/jumping as I have problems with my hips, knees and ankles (which at 17 isn't great :o ) and when I get a new jumping saddle, I would like to do more XC and have been advised to do lots of work standing in my stirrups anyway, to help my knees, but I think it could cause as many problems as it solves! I'm wondering if these would help me a little, as I've read that they can be helpful to people with leg/joint problems?
Does anyone have these or similar, and are they worth the money? I have used similar stirrups before but not for a long time, and at £100+ they're a bit pricey to try on the off chance!

Thanks :)
Sol x.

I have these ones http://www.frogpool.com/tack/leathe...thers/sprenger-bow-balance-stirrup-irons.html on all my saddles now (got fed up swapping between saddles!) and I just don't know what I'd do without them. I had a serious accident back in 2009 which meant my knee was out of action for a good while. These stirrups have been a god-send. I've got friends who also ride who've had knee operations and have swapped to using these stirrups and found them to be totally different to normal ones. You'll definitely feel the difference.

I'm never sure just how much difference they really make...Especially when they are £100+ can they really be worth that much?

*sits and waits to be jumped on for my opinion*

Sounds good, thank you! :) It certainly sounds like they must be worth the money if you have them on all of your saddles! :p Not sure I could justify buying more than one pair, maybe if I ever get more into jumping! (they will spend 99% of their time on my dressage saddle)

I really like the Royal Rider Jump Flex stirrups. I didn't realise how much difference they made until I rode in a saddle with normal stirrups and my knees and ankles weren't very happy!

Again, they're quite expensive, but realistically - how many times are you going to buy stirrups? You may as well get a good pair.

I was looking on the Horze website yesterday and saw that they do a pair of stirrups with shock absorbing stirrup treads for a little over £20 - they might be worth a try?

I have the same as Noodlejaffa, and also these one http://www.frogpool.com/tack/leathe...leathers/sprenger-flexible-stirrup-irons.html on every saddle I use now. I find the 2nd pair are better for jumping as I have "cheese grater" treads in them that mean my feet do not move.

I shattered my ankle joint and some days struggle to put my heel down. This has led to problems in my back and after a bone graft to my ankle from my hip my hip aches in the cold after riding a few horses and these stirrups are brilliant. I have tried knock offs but was fortunate to be able to borrow the sprenger ones from trainer and I hate riding in metal irons now. and never used the cheap ones again as I didnt feel a great difference

So I would say ime yes, worth every penny( I have about 5/6 saddles)

My sister has a pair which were very similar to the ones NoodleJaffa linked you too- only they were bog standard flexible ones. She had no problems with knees or ankles or whatever, but does find them far more comfortable to use. I think we got ours in a t tack shop for about £30- A paid for them herself, so they definitely weren't much more than that! Might be worth a look?

I think they were these, only with black bits, not white!

ETA: they've been going strong for about 3 years now!

I have the original ones (like the ones posted in the OP, but with normal top, not offset) and have had them for almost 6 years now! I love them and hate riding in normal stirrups now, I really do notice the difference.

Mr FigJam mocked me for buying "stirrups with suspension" when I first got them and said it was a ridiculous amount of £ to spend (I think they were £80 back then), but when you balance out the cost per use, I think they've been a bargain. ;)

I desperately want (I would say need...! :p ) another pair now that I have two saddles, but I'm far too skint thanks to hay/shavings/feed being so damn pricey plus everytime I hover over buying them I think "that could be another BE entry/couple of lessons" etc and so just stick to swapping my stirrups between saddles...

You KNOW you need to get another pair! I just got fed up swapping between each horse's different saddles. Was getting very time consuming - but I struggle to ride in bog-standard stirrups now as these are so comfortable. Tell Mr FJ that even Mr NJ is getting a pair. He's been so impressed with mine!

ive got bow balance and they are amazing. i sometimes ride other horses and i am in agony with my knees with normal stirrups, and thats just hacking in walk. Not even after really tough lesson do i get any pain when using my bow balance. More than worth the money.

I brought an unbranded replica pair that have been amazing. I used to work at a yard where they used the sprenger ones, and cant tell the difference tbh.. Think i paid £20 for them. :) PM me if you want and i will let you know wher i got them from

Mine are nearly 8 years old now and I would NEVER get rid - I even take them with me when I go to ride other horses.

I am going to have to invest in another set when baby pony is under saddle....

I NEVER now ride in normal stirrups as it makes my ankles, knees & hips hurt too much.

I've got the thorowgood knock offs of the original sprengers, and really like them, they are no different to the original sprengers :) However, I have ridden in the bow balance and ADORED them! Would definitely get a pair if you can justify the expense :)

The problem with the cheap ones that just flex back and forth is the fact they can trap the foot in an accident... you need some them flex from side to side slightly too :)

I have the ones the OP linked to, flexi offset eye.

Both my knees and ankles have seen better days, I find these really comfortable.
I also like the way I don't have to twist about to put my feet in the stittups.
I use the cheese grater treads with mine.
For me they were worth the money.

They have some on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPRENGER-SYST...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item3ef828f018

See, I can justify the expense to an extent (well, I can certainly afford them if I choose to as much as spending less would be appreciated!) but then there's a choice.... the bow balance ones, or the ones with the offset eye like the ones I originally linked to? I have looked at both, there isn't enough difference in price to make my mind up either.
