Springadors.. Where to find!

We had a gorgeous springador who we had to put down in the summer due to illness, genuinely the best breed of dog I ever had, gorgeous to look at and a beautiful temperament. As I have feel so in love with the breed I am looking for another.. But the dilemma is, Charlie our lovely boy looked more like a springer rather than a lab, and I am finding it impossible to find a reputable breeder or any that are more springer than lab!

We rescued charlie from the pounds in Ireland so can't trace his history, we don't 100% know he was a Springador, but his build and head made it seem that way, or I believe he could have been crossed with a retriever, but i would definitely say something in that range! I can post pics if need be, but could anyone shed some light on where I could look for one? Like I say, it's not essential the dog looks like a springer but I just prefer them :)

Thanks!

Just search for springer crosses in rescues or contact the springer rescues to be notified if they get any crosses come in.
There is no reason to try & repeat an unknown.
What is wrong with getting a springer?

I've looked at a few, where we got our old boy from but they have nothing suitable, I loved having a rescue but it caused a problem not knowing his medical history, which is why we sadly had to have him pts. But would definitely consider another rescue, nothing wrong with a Springer at all but I've never had experience with a pure Springer and just loved the mixture of the breeds, but will keep looking.

But you don't know what mixture of breeds you had and TBH the chances of getting that cross from fully health tested (not heath checked!) parents is slim to non existant. If you don't want to work try a filed working dog - often still with the breeder & with full history. Breed rescues often know of these but the police & customs often snap them up.

No we weren't certain on his breed, but the rescue, the numerous vets etc and from our own experience thought the same, without a doubt he had some kind of lab/retriever in him.
What is a filed working dog sorry, how would I go about finding one :)

Quite a few years ago we got a rescue from Battersea, she looked like a Beagle x Manchester Terrier with possibly a hint of whippet in the mix. When she grew old and died of a heart attack we were so upset and would have loved another like her. The chances of finding anything like her would have been remote and I think you too will find the same, your previous dog could have had all sorts in the mix. Either go for a Springer or look at rescue dogs but you will not find another dog like your previous dog. Even within breeds I found having 4 Dobermanns they have all been so different to one another and I have 2 siblings who are poles apart.

Incidently Springadors are not a breed but a x breed.

Most vets couldn't identify a breed if it was tattooed across it's flank. He could have been springer x lab but could equally have been cocker x setter x staffie. This could give the same appearance. Sorry the typo was for failed - ie one that lacks drive or prefers to work close in. Springer rescues should be your starting point.

There are a lot of Labrador cross puppies for sale on epupz. Please if you contact one of these ask to see health test results. Ie. hip scores, eye tests etc. just because they are cross breeds doesn't mean they can't have health issues

I know it is a cross breed lol, but a cross breed can still have a breeder surely?
Once again, I understand that a cross breed can have health issues, I don't think it was stated I thought that.. Anyway, thanks to the lovely person to has PM'd me about it.
Simply trying to find a dog/rescue/puppy who can join the family and be loved, we just wanted some familiarity that is all.
Bit of a sensitive subject I am guessing..

I'm on my second set of springers, currently have 4, none are anything like each other, even though two are full siblings. I love them all, same as I love my horse who is nothing like my old horse that died.

Don't go looking to repeat what you had, a dog is born with a certain temperament and this is helped to flourish by the owners. Go and have a look at your local rescue and see what takes your fancy. It's a fortunate thing, to see the fully formed character of an adult dog and to be able to choose that dog.
