Can't believe I'm posting this but just had v drunken honest chat with OH (forgive any typos!): we have always known that Brig is awful on his own and he has been v odd this week after the death of his brother. We sincerely believe that the only sensible and fair solution is to get another dog asap. I'm back to work in a fortnight and I don't think he'll cope being left alone.

Because we have one dog now, we think that getting 2 rather than 1 puppy might be sensible, so they are never alone. We would prefer black and white with the white stripe down the nose (fussy, but true to breed standard).

Does anyone know of a litter, preferably in the South but obviously prepared to travel as far as it takes for the right litter?

Many heartfelt thanks.

Do I understand you are thinking of getting 2 pups, I really wouldn't recommend it, 2 pups together can be a nightmare to train. Have you thought of getting a slightly older dog,I am sure there will be a springer rescue out there. It would also be easier if you are going back to work soon, house training pups can be very hard if you are not around as much as possible in the early weeks. I do agree thought that getting another dog would probably help Brig, poor lad must be very lost on his own.

Sorry Slinky but some of those ads made me **headdesk**

Especially the one which is looking rid of an eight-year-old dog, because the boisterous two year old is clearly annoying it :( poor old guy.

CT, I have a litter brother and sister, different breed, got them with a one and a half month gap in between, but still, it is not for the faint hearted, the bond between young dogs of the same age, especially siblings, can over-ride the bond with you and seperate walking and training is needed a lot of the time.
I got them as youngsters, not babies, and they had grown up in separate households but it has still been a challenge.
Those rescue dogs look lovely :)

Thanks, ladies. We have found a black and white litter in Essex and are viewing this afternoon. I understand the concerns about having two but we obviously had Jake and Brig together as they are brothers and we found that Brig just followed Jake's lead. Brig, bless him, is not very bright! We never walked them separately-I know you're supposed to, but they were together for everything and it was never an issue in any respect til now of course, that Jake is no longer here.

We are not looking for older dogs as we want to train youngsters the way we want them (Jake and Brig never bark, were extremely well socialised and attached and trained to lots of key words) and I would worry that older dogs might poorly react to Brig, especially as he's not neutered (don't kill me, he doesn't know what girls are and is never out of sight)

I can't believe we're doing this, especially as my parents landed yesterday from Newcastle!

I think the timing is fair as OH works shifts and the pups would never be left more than a couple of hours. We have an amazing neighbour who will have them during the day on the 3 days a month when me and OH would be at work.

Cor, my mind is blown! Will update later. We will not bring home any pups that don't fit the OH's quite strict criteria.

Very nice litter down here in Somerset if you dont get any joy. Let me know if you want contact details.

I saw a lovely litter in Totnes and another in Cornwall. Trouble is, OH is v fussy re the white stripe-can't be too thin or too broad and it must be b/w, not l/w.

So far, OH has decided to get out right money and I've fitted out the old cat carrying basket with paper, blankets etc. If the pictures are accurate and the reviews for the person's business (not breeding!) are correct, then I think we'll be proud new owners rather soon. I got stupidly upset in the supermarket thinking if we get pups, I won't love them as much as I loved Jake. Mad woman.

Lol, bless OH!

I know how you feel. I was the same after we had picked out Ruby, worrying in case I didnt love her as much as nellie or that I would almost resent her for being here when Nellie wasnt. But I can honestly say that we are totally besotted with each other and I wouldnt be without her!

As soon as I had a warm bundle of cocker puppy in my arms I was fine!

I totally understand you wanting to give Brig canine companionship but just a caution that he is greiving for Jake as much as you and OH, and 2 puppies may be a bit full on for him and could have the reverse effect and he could seperate himself from them completely.

If you are dead set against an older dog, then personally I would get one pup to let him adjust to a new family member in his own time rather than having 2 pups turning his world upside down.

Good luck though :)

Un-named as yet. Two little boys. Both black and white. nine and a half weeks old-brothers. They puked all the way home in the car-we had an emergency stop at Tesco to clean up the first lot but the rest was left. They've had a bath and been hairdried. Brig is distinctly unimpressed, especially when the bolder one attacked him! One leapt at the OH, the other snuggled into my neck and fell asleep. No choice, we had to take both.

OMG how cute are they!! Im sure they will very quickly settle in to your family and Brig will keep them in line. FWIW we did exactly the same when we lost little Soph so unexpectedly this year, our older springer Rosie is nearly 14 and I was worried if anything happened to her Smurph wouldnt cope on his own. Within a week we had chosen our new pup, she was only 2 weeks old so we had to wait to bring her home but having her to look forward to helped to heal the pain. She has been adorable from day one, Rosie has mothered her brilliantly and Smurph fulfils his role as big brother with endless patience. I do walk her separately once a day, mainly because the oldies cant walk so far and she is turning into a fab little dog. Best of luck with your two, they look absolutely adorable:)

You did it!!! I knew you wouldnt come home without them. lol. What sweet looking boys. Any ideas on names yet and which one is yours!!?

Lots of pics please!

We have five dogs, the youngest of which are two Springer bitches from the same litter. Despite what people told us, they are adorable and have been very easy to train. They never argue with one another ("They won't get on - they'll fight" - wrong!) and although they are inseparable and totally devoted to one another, they are extremely loving towards us and are very obedient. We actually went out to buy just one puppy but came home with two as they were offered to us as "buy one get one free" (honestly! Breeder thought we were "a nice doggy family"!!!) since the breeder was having problems selling them as working dogs because they hadn't been docked! We just love them to bits!

They are absolutely stunning! Could you please post me the one with the freckly nose please :p:p

Names and more pics are needed :D:D

I really want another puppy, must restrain myself.......for now :D

Freckly one is mine-just cuddles in and I like very affectionate dogs. He's Bear.

One with thin strip is OH's-Brave. He climbed out of the cage they were in to get to OH!

Gonna sound real idiots shouting for the Spangle massive in the woods-Brave, Bear, Brig!

The fox woke them all at 4.30-the puppies bark which Brig and Jake never did, so it's a bit noisy in the CT household.

I'll do pictures when OH gets up and can hold them-currently they're lapping the kitchen and Brig is curled up watching them in sheer disbelief.

They aren't docked and have the longest wormiest tails ever.

I thought OH said the stripe mustn't be too wide or too thin? That one on the left is definately too thin, so post him to Norfolk immediately and we'll say no more!

So glad you found them (they found you) I'm sure you'll all have great fun when Brig has got used to his new little friends.

He did, then immediately picked up the naughtiest one with the teeny stripe! I looked in the cage and knew we were taking them home-3 had good stripes! OH has changed his mind on name and his is now Zak and is registered at the vets. Injections were done this morning and I'll steal pics off OH's phone.

Brig is now interested in seeing what they're doing and wants to be in the same room-there have been a few growls but he's allowing them to go under him and be on the bed with him (but stole their teething toy and won't let them have it back:D)

Both pups are v travel sick so we'll have to build up slowly and drive v carefully. Picture of them feeling sorry for themselves after a nasty trip to the vet:

Well the boot liner's proving to be a good buy so far then! :D

How's Brig doing now? Hope he's not too overwhelmed or had his nose put out of joint - I want to give him a cuddle - forget the pups :(

Scary how like Jake Bear is to look at!

Brig is being massively spoilt and is on his 2nd walk of the day. He is mostly on my knee or being cuddled. I am delighted to report that the vet phoned an hour ago with results of the biopsy to say that it was a fatty lump! Have to say I cried and cried! So relieved.

I assure you, he would never be ignored: he's my priority and my first spangle love. He's my dog (Jake was OH's) and knows fine well that he's the main man.
