Took my lovely 9 year old for an emergency appointment, as I thought she was going to keel over today

Vet said her temp. was 39.6

Heatstroke. It came on over the space of a couple of hours.

They gave fluid via IV. and she is to go back tomorrow for a check up.

She looks much brighter tonight. Thank god.

Poor girl - glad she seems ok now!
Surprised OH doesn't have to deal with more heatstroke with the greyhounds at the mo but they all seem to be coping remarkably well! (Nice cool kennels & posh vans! LOL)

Not just the dogs & ponies I worry about either - we have been playing 'musical chairs' with the hamsters for about a week now!
All windows open & all cages moved to coolest parts of bedrooms! One of the little brutes insists on sleeping in his plastic tube system - was paranoid at first but he just glares at you crossly if you try & shift him, so I just leave him to it now! LOL

My old collie has had heatstroke a couple of times since moving to Canada. I was advised by the vet to clip all her tummy fur and her ruff off. Since doing this, she has been absolutely fine with the heat. I do hose the dogs down a few times a day aswell and this seems to work well. I also don't take her out riding with me anymore as she just cannot cope with it in this hot weather any longer.

Hope your dog is feeling better soon.
