just wondered what your opinions on them where?

They're fine for experienced riders. See too many kiddies wearing them nowadays. When I was young only adults seemed to wear them. Maybe today's child riders are more experienced than they wee in those days??

yes i agree, i wear them on my tb ( sounds crazy ) but i believe they are not cruel, they enchance your leg aids etc. just wondered what everyone else thought about them!
you get alot of people who dont agree with them.

as long as your not booting hell out of the pony/horse and using them properly i think they are ok.

you do mean spurs right?

I think on the still, trained, leg, they are good. I would advocate them, I use them. You have to have an independent leg from seat, etc

In the old school you are not dressed without spurs, so if you have a fabulously forward off the leg horse, you wear dummies!

I have all sorts of sizes/lengths depending on the horse.

Do you mean spurs?

I've always worn them! Not for hacking but for always for jumping and most of the time for flat work. I guess I've just got used to riding with them.... don't think I use them a great deal though.

i use them but i only feel comfortable wearing the impusle ones - sounds silly but im paranoid about marking him! i shouldnt worry really because my leg position is quite good

however, i was walking across the field in chesire at the novice champs ( head groom

, and there were sooooooo many ponies with spur rubs and they were quite large - they had been rubbed raw

I think I counted 20 ponies with sores - after xc day

I dont ride in spurs at home, but i do at comps as my horse is rather lazy:p

I think they are perfectly fine along as the rider doesn't have a runaway leg then its a big no no.
I use them on all three of mine- love them!
One..even though she is lively...i always use when jumping in a competition on her as it really gets her 'up' and listening to compared to long!
Other ned is a bit slower off the leg..used them for jumping for a little while now for same reason as above. I've only just really started schooling in them (i was conscience of my leg with pokeyness on it moving to much) just been trying them for a couple of days now for flat and the difference is amazing!! He is much more uphill, looser and springy!
And lastly the ponio is just a bit stubborn with jumping so needs them to back up my leg aid.
I'd must prefer to use them during a jumping round when i feel them back off apposed to a whip aswell!

I would never advocate them if I were instructing someone and they marked the horse. Then they're on the wrong person.

Only once have I "forgotten" that I had some on, and I gave our lovely pony a kick, he nearly had me off, and dead right too!

If you are conscious of your leg and start to wear them , it certainly serves to turn your toes in better, and improves your leg position for ever, from that day. When you "get your spurs" you should have a small ceremony, to remember the moment and never forget you have them...

well i saw a young rider wearing the new ball type the other day and asked if i could have a look.
There are really cool, and they roll rather than dig, perfect for people of all levels i think.

I'd far rather give a discreet aid with the spur than kick, kick, kick. My horse was initially rather dead off the leg and didn't go forward well and spurs have certainly helped. I have never caused the slightest bit of of hair loss with them, in fact I have to really concentrate to make contact with them, my feet naturally point very straight forwards and I have to consciously turn them out to use the spurs. As I say, it is a very discreet use, not in any way a pain-causing use.
