My Charlie has come up with one just about an inch from where his girth goes.....vet has been out and advised thatif I want it treated ( I do because of its location) then the best wway forward is to freeze it off...(!) It's not suitable for a band because she says it has very little core so will just irritate his skin...has any one had any experience of this!!

Sarcoid that is!!! Derr

I think all horses are different but my sister's horse developed a sarcoid within a few months of us getting him. It had appeared to just be a wart but grew quite quickly after we bought him. It was at the base of his ear so in the way of where his bridle sat (or would be if it grew much more). Our vet came, sedated him and used a local anaesthetic, cut the sarcoid out and froze the area. It did take a while and there was a fair bit of blood squirting at one point (all over vet's nice clean shirt! lol). However, that was 7 years ago and (touch wood) he's not had any more appear since!

Thanks for the replies...hoping this will mean the end of it.....to be honest I probably wouldn't be getting it removed if it wasn't where it was, it's not bleeding or any thing!! Sigh

I had a mare with huge sarcoids on her girth and between her hind legs. She had the BCG injections, and they all disappeared, and never came back. Absolutely brilliant - but hellish expensive!
