ive been told to try wearing spurs on my horse when schooling him on the flat to get a quicker reaction from him etc but i have never ever worn a pair in my life and i very much doubt my horse has had anyone use them on him b4, can i have some advice (worried about hurting him etc) ?

Would only use them if you have a very secure leg position, and maybe have your instructor there when you use them the first few times? You should use your leg, and then if he doesn't listen back up with the spur.

You need to make sure you can use the spur when you choose/need to rather than every time you use your leg. As long as you can do that then you should be fine. Maybe start of with a little stubby pair to begin with and see how you go...

I would perhaps get a lesson or an experienced friend to watch you the first time as I think the difficulty with spurs is making sure you do not over use them and that your lower leg is still.
