Advice/ideas required I noticed smalll amounts of blood on inside of horses sheath, had vet out she wasn't too concerned. Gave antibiotics/bute, urine tested(Clear) and wanted to come back and reasse 2weeks later, still no improvement. The is no lesions on his willie just looks slightly bruised, but looked better from 1st visit. Now 6weeks later still blood inside sheath!!
Pictures been sent to God(Derek Knottenbelt) who thinks its Squamous cell carinoma!! So swab/biospy being done tomorrrow.
Am I right too start panicking or could it be something simple?

Thanks in advance for you help it will be gratefully recieved!!
(Spelling and grammer not my strong point!!)

Hi
If it is squamous cell carcinoma your horse will probably need to have his penis removed.
How old is he? This condition is more likely in older horses

If you search 'cancer of penis' on this forum there is quite a long thread with peoples experiences

My gelding had SCC on his penis diagnosed a few years ago, he had cryogenic surgical freezing technique done and it was a success. I ahd said at the beginning that I wouldn't have anything too invasive done as I sometimes think the treatment is worse than the disease and he was an old boy who i wouldn't want to see going through harsh treatment. It returned unfortunately and I lost him in April.
After the treatment though, which was done under heavy sedation and he was given plenty of pain relief afterwards, he was fine for 2 years until it returned.
Good luck, hopefully it will be something simple and he will get over it quickly.

ets, obviously the earler it is caught the better.

i know of 3 geldings who had to have their willy removed due to SCC. one peed like a mare and the other 2 peed through a hole like a gelding. all lived happy and useful lifes after surgery for several quality years. why dont you just get a referral and take him direct to Derek Knottenbelt for appraisal, biopsy etc? cos if he needs surgery he will be referred anyhow? hope you have insurance. if not get a price for this and the pros and cons in black and white before you decide. and do think about it hard, and take into the equation the age of your horse. Hope this helps and hope the outcome is good.
