is my horse just odd?? he squeals all the time! im almost 100% certain its when hes excited as he generally does it when im schooling in the field-asking for canter, or when we turn towards a jump (he also does it when i come to bring him in from the field). hes just had his teeth done, and his saddle fitted recently, which is why im thinking excitement, also if he is worked in a school-very lazy and no squealing?? is he normal?! its very embarrassing!!
also just a quick question-is a placing pole a stride out from the jump?
thanks!

Yes to place pole.

Some horses do just squeal, like mini yippee's! He is generally quite noisey-doesnt he whinney alot at other horses?

well hes only living with one other, and he does call to her a couple of times when hes taken away from her, and he does nicker when its tea time, so yes i guess hes just talking!

My old horse use to squeal when he got excited (ie. when cantering). And sometimes he would squeal in protest (when being held back in canter). My new one also squeals at me sometimes, generally when he's feeling a bit tense and wants to go faster. They are both perfectly healthy (backs/teeth/saddle etc checked regularly), so I don't worry, just see it as a way of them communicating with me and try to decipher it's meaning at the time.

Mine doesnt squeal that often, instead he does this awful shriek that is supposed to be his whinny but it doesnt half burst your ear drums its that high pitched!

We used to have a pony at the RS that used to squeeck every step it took. It was perfectly fine and healthy... just used to like to squeal lol

My young horse squeals all the time on the lunge when asked for upwards transitions. It is usually accompanied by a tossing head so i think its her way of saying 'waheyyy we're off' An excitment thing ive decided
