I have used the slanting stirrup treads in my stirrups for years now and find them very comfortable.

However I have just seen a photo in the BHS magazine and they are the other way round to the way I wear mine.

So, which is the right way round, thicker bit on the outside, thiner bit on the inside or vice versa???

I thought it was thick bit to the inside, to help your foot/ankle/leg mould round the horses sides.

Surely that would make you lean on the outside of you stirrups taking your knees and lower leg off the horses side?

I was always told it's thick to the outside so it encourages to keep a constant contact with the horse's side.

Neither have I! But I know a fair few SJer that preach by them, personally I think my ankles would be agony using them, they seem to put pressue on the riders joints no matter which way round you put them.

I use them thick side to the outside, same reasoning as your SJ friend.

Picture in BHS mag, which was also of a SJ had thich bit on inside, or maybe they jut had a twisted stirrup.

I do feel it's easier for me to keep my feet in the stirrups with them rather than flat treads.

However, I only use them with one of my horses so that's that theory shot!!!
