Looking at replacing our saab 95 with another vehicle. The Ssangyong has caught our eye given the towing capabilities. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has one, good and bad. Also if you tow with them what have you got them towing and how well does it do the job? Thanks

I bought a Ssangyong Kyron about a year ago - had bought a trailer and I needed to change my fabulous little Terios to something that would tow. Saw the Kyron (2 yrs old) all polished and shiny in the dealer's brightly lit showroom. Sat in driving seat but stupidly didn't press for a test drive. Did a bit of research, but not enough because I wanted all the news to be good! Research shows that the Kyron - and I'm guessing the Rexton too - have noisy engines but couldn't find much more out about them. Silly silly me, I should have realised that not much info = not a popular car. First problem was that Direct Line wouldn't flipping well insure it, some garbled crud about it being imported, which it wasn't. Began to get nervous. Bought it anyway and then discovered that it was a horrible, noisy, unreliable tank of a vehicle. Very poor mpg. Drove like the QE2 in a hurricane. Engine roars all the perishing time. Everyone at the yard could hear me coming from half a mile away and a chap at the yard said it sounded like a Harrier jump jet coming in to land, which is very true. The hand brake is the OTHER SIDE of the central console thing and I could never pull it up enough to trust it on a hill. Had to leave it in gear all the time. God, how I missed my Terios. Couldn't stand it in the end and couldn't reverse the trailer to save my life so sold the trailer and bought a small lorry jointly with a pal at the yard whose OH is a skilled mechanic. Got a good price for the trailer but LOST over £6,000 part exing the bloody Kyron just 9 months later for a brand new little Suzuki Jimny.

BEWARE!!!!!! Ssangyongs don't hold their resale value and people are cagey about buying them because there won't be a service centre for hundreds of miles. It was a very, very expensive mistake for me. They are cheap for a reason. Don't get lumbered with an unsellable tank that costs a fortune to run.
