Wont go into the whole story as something may come of it yet.
Last night was a long night involving an old, once very loved dog.
This dog was left by an old lady on her deathbed to a relative along with a substantial amount of money to cover his care/food.
If she only knew the truth of what was going to happen to her faithful companion!!
The truth was the poor dog has had 2yrs of abuse and neglect, finally being thrown into a tiny ramshackle wooden shed, with no bed, food or water, laying in his own body waste for weeks.
His coat is so matted with poo and urine he stank to high heaven, is so emaciated he can barely walk or lift his head off the floor!
This dog has been reported twice in the last couple of weeks to the SSPCA but they have done absolutely nothing!
So last night we talked the owner into handing him over to us, he has had a bath and a sort of trim of the matted coat that we can get off, he had the comfort of a soft warm bed and has been fed tiny handfuls of food every hour through out the night and is booked in to the vets for 5pm to see if anything can be done or if it would be kinder to pts....if he is pts at least i will have a clear conscience that his last few hours on earth were knowing, warmth, love and kindness.
SHAME ON YOU SSPCA!!!

Bl00dy well done for taking matters into your own hands in a calm, legal and non-confrontational way.

Whatever happens with this poor dog, you can be safe in the knowledge, as you say, that you have shown it love, warmth and human kindness once more.

Maybe ask your vet if they can contact the SSPCA with the details and push for prosecution.

Maybe they haven't had a chance to go and visit yet? I don't know much about the SSPCA, but they may well have thousands of calls to get to. People are not super human - they can only physically do what they can do with so many welfare concerns reported daily across the country. Sad fact unfortunately.

Glad that the dog is now in safe hands.

Well i need to say sorry to the SSPCA, they are on their way to me now to see him, i just hope they act on what they see!

Poor little soul. Sometimes the animal welfare services have problems finding the owner at home- or prepared to answer the door. I'm not familiar with the SSPCA but have called the RSPCA on a few occasions and they will get the officer attending to call back to let you know that something has been done.
I'm glad they are coming even if it is after you stepped in. Well done to you. Just wonder if the person couldn't be prosecuted for not only the neglect but for not using the funds for the welfare of the dog.

So glad he's safe and being shown some compassion now.

I don't think you need to say sorry at all.

Two years this went on and the SSPCA did nothing? and you have reported twice in two weeks and they did nothing?.

That is disgusting, busy or not.

I hope the wee chap will be okay. People are awful, why have animals if you clearly don't give two hoots about them. It truly makes me sick.

oh well done and thank god that you have acted. I really hope the dog pulls through and at least has some time of human love and kindness at the end of his life.
Selfish horrible nasty greedy people never cease to amaze me......that dogs lovely owner made clear provision for her beloved pet and then her benefactors ignored her wishes to the detrement of the dog. I hope the sspca does something about it...but folk like that are not worth thinking about.
fingers crossed for the lovely little dog, and yourself.

It's not surprising to be honest, I hear stories like this all the time. You now need to be careful as because you have taken the dog in they will most likely be less willing to anything about it.

OP says she reported it within the last two weeks. Not two years. How did the SSPCA know it was going on for two years?

I have to eat my words, the inspector came out, was nothing short of very helpful, did what she could, and came to the vets this eve where he was put to sleep, and the SSPCA are paying his vets bill.
RIP old man, sorry we didnt get to you sooner.
