I have a new horse that I am about to kit out for winter so am looking at medium and heavyweight stable and turnout rugs. After looking on all the usual sites for any bargains I am starting to be unsure which make I should go for..... So I would be very grateful if people could recommend brands of rugs they have found to be well fitting and hard wearing?? And has anyone tried the "Buster" rugs from Premier Equine because I have never seen or heard of these ones before?

Many thanks!

I love Horseware Amigo, they fit really well, last forever and are pretty well priced too.

Also like Mark Todd but they come up big and are really expensive.

Wetherbeeta do a nice cooler but not tried their others because they don't suit my horse's shape.

Can't think what else I have....Horseware mostly really. Really recommend them.

The winter buster from permier equine looks good , its a great price too , I cant decide between it and the Rambo duo- I like the fact that you can take the liner out or swap the weight

I love the look of the Mark Todd ones but can't afford the whole lot to be Mark Todd unfortunately! But will bear in mind the fact they come up large if i do stretch to one or two...!

Have also been looking at the Horseware ones and like the look of them. Am also determined to try and get all rugs with detachable necks because I am not sure what clip my horse will be having yet.

I bought the winter buster heavyweight from Premier Equine last winter and it is FAB!! I love it! It doesn't slip, it's beautifully warm and the neck cover is elasticated so it stops the wind chill whizzing down past the ears and chest! I also just bought the light weight turnout from them (it arrived yesterday) ready for the more chilly autumn days. I would go with PE - their service is fantastic, rugs excellent quality and prices brilliant!!

I only bought the MT because it was half price at Burghley last year! Wouldn't be able to stretch to one normally.

I made the mistake of buying everything with detachable necks...my pony is such a thug, he just destroys them playing with the other horses. Full necks all the way for me from now on, I can just fold the neck down!

Definitely try Horseware though. Mine takes a 6ft3 and they come up spot on, whereas MT he needs a 6ft and that is deep on him as well (I found they are really designed for big horses not 14.2hh Welshies who have long backs, lol!!).

QR, see thats weird I find the MT come up a bit small if anything?! But v much recommend them, big fan. Any look on ebay there are a few complanies that do the MT ones on there, got my lot new MT HW combo turnouts last year for £85 each!!

Im going with horseware all the way all theirs rugs fit fine horses well from the amigos to the rambo's.

I have a l/w amigo a m/w one with a hood and i have a rhino wug ( all turn outs )

I own a very long narrow gangaly tb with evil withers and never ever have i had one rub her in the slightest.

I bought a mark todd fleece which i loved but its was huge around her neck and is still in the bag! It just wasnt a very good fit at all so im sticking with horseware so i know they all fit.

I have tried all rugs in my rug addiction so am only too well qualified to answer this one (my OH has put a rug buying ban on me).
Premier Equine - good quality rugs, and a very good service, even for returns. Limited range of rugs, though.
Rambo Horseware - I've had a few and generally good, but one (with a neck) slips right off the side of my mare (cut squint I think)...so quality is not always perfect.
Weatherbeeta - good value for money, nice cut, but don't last as well as other makes.
M***a - well I bought one last winter...leaked badly and already looks about 10 years old.
Mark Todd - good value, nice fit, but seem built for the 'bigger' or 'chunkier' horse.
But if you are rich, FAL are the most expensive range (I'm not rich so can't give you a review LOL)
Thanks for that vicarious bit of rug buying.

i love weatherbeater rugs. they are well priced and last forever!! they also seem to fit really well. i have stable and turnout rugs by them and i cant fault them!
i am a rug addict and have everything, rambo, fal, M, Todd, masta and shires and weatherbeater win by far

I really like the Mark Todd rugs, and I got a lovely weatherbeeta turnout from Equestrian Clearance. You may also be interested to know Ingatestone Saddlery have got a disscount rug day next Saturday (22nd).

Thanks everyone for your help - am now deciding whether to go to Ingatestone saddlery and try their rug sale or get some internet bargains now with the ol' credit card... hee hee!
