Iv always thought stable bandages were made of wool? I used to keep my first pony on a hunting yard and they used wool stable bandages. But now, i go to the local tack shop and ask for stable bandages and they point me to the fleece ones. Is this right that we now use fleece bandages as stable bandages?

Im confused

Can someone please explane.

Mine are and acrylic type mix thing as I can't use wool cos I'm allergic and these ones work just as well. The fleece ones are usually for polo, no?

wool bandages are better as they are a natural fibre, but they do tend to stretch. fleece bandages are predominantly called polo wraps. these are used for polo as the offer more padding. fleece bandages are used as stable bandages because it has become the trend to do so. people like them because they feel soft to them. but if you use them i would put some fibregee or bandage wraps underneath. if you can get wool ones, i would use them. x

I got given some fleece one but havnt used them as i was sure there was a reason i wasnt ment to, i just couldnt remeber why. Thanks for that guys. So now where do i find wool ones please? I have had a look for them on the internet but i can only seem to find the fleece ones.

You can still get the traditional type ones... the best ones I have come across are thermatex ones - keep their shape and don't stretch as easily as the airborne ones... similar price...
