Little old horse at our yard has done her tendon in. It's an old injury (bowed tendon) which she re-did right after the snow melted. We had snow for 4 weeks solid and it disappeared over night, girls went for a bit of a charge round the field and she came in hopping.

Anyway, the owner never comes to the yard and the YO has been left caring for the horse. It's not part of the livery cost but if she didn't do it then the horse would never get it's her bandages changed. Basically YO is changing her stable bandages every 2 - 3 days which I'm not exactly happy about, I think they should be changed everyday just incase they are causing pressure points. I don't have time to do it every night (though I've been making time for the past week) was thinking I could buy her stable boots like the PE ones. Would they provide as much support for her tendon, would they be ok to leave on 24/7 for upwards of 3 - 6 months (vets estimate!) any advice gladly recieved! Poor little girl should probably be put down, she's 28, not ridden and being left box resting with no company through the day and no human attention other than bandage changes :( really frustrates me.

I have veredus magnetic stable boots for my horse, who has them on every night (approx 12 hours). They offer just as much support as bandages and no pressure points (which you can get from incorrect bandaging). You can't use magnets on new injuries, but I think stable boots would be a great idea for the injured horse on your yard. Stable bandages or boots should be taken down and reapplied at least every 12 hours and definately shouldn't be left on for days at a time. The horse's owners should be paying either you or yard owner to do this if she can't be a***d to do it herself. Good on you for taking an interest in the poor horse.

Just wanted to add that the owner told the YO that the vet had recommended leaving the stable bandages on for a couple of days at a time. I'm almost tempted to call her vet and ask if this is actually what he said and if what his thoughts on pressure sores are....maybe he's think more money if she gets pressure sores with a nice little infection to boot.

I'm still doing the bandages and the owner is still not come back to us on buying stable boots for ease of changing. Quite furious about it now but I don't know how to do the furious smiley!
