I was wondering if anyone has ever made their own stable door and if so what ype of wood did you use and did it cost you more to make it then it would if you had of bought it?
It depends what you are planning to do frame wise... if you are going to have metal frames on the door, chipboard might do, depends what horses you are having in... Door Kickers etc...

The top door isnt a problem I never use it anyway. I just need a new bottom door as my horse likes to crib and over the years the top of it had been runined. I need it to be fairly solid and strong.
cheaper to make them, definitely, but you need to stress to the carpenter that it needs to keep 1/2 tonne of horse in, so must be very solid!
or, just buy the shaped aluminium plating that CAM used to sell (Derby House might now) and fix that around the top of the existing door, so it is anti-chew.
My dad is going to make the door for me hes very good like that.Just needed some kind of idea on whats the best wood to use as its outside id need somehing to battle the elements.
The doors in Robinsons are £100 i was hoping I could make one for less than that.As for the Aluminim plating Ill look into that but the door as good as it is is old and I though sod it I might as well replace it
Try getting some sturdy pallets that woodchips are delivered on, they are slatted, take the slatts off, cut to size, close the slatts up, put a piece of chipboard on the back, hey presto one cheap door once painted you won't know it was only a pallet.
True but I think id worry that it will be to weak but I have been concidering the Pallet idea but with something other than chip board may a sheet of marine ply with a second lot of slats on the inside to,
