Hi

Stables are up and now time to fit them out....its very exciting!!

Was wondering fo those of you with your own yards; what type of stable lights do you use? twin fluorescents strips?

Also, under the canopy outside, can anyone recommed lights that are powerful but dont hang down too much and arent ugly like strips?

Thanks

Do you have electric?? just a thought, I dont have electric so I use caravan florescent lights that run off a 12v car battery... they work really well with a new battery, for the bigger stables I use 2 tubes... you can buy them at any caravan/camping shop...

We use flourescent strips.
For outside, why not use normal 100w bulbs but in a safe bulkhead fitting (wired over so horses can't get hurt) and fitted to either the front wall (proberly safer) or above the box doors (thinking about it, would probably be better if lights were in between each box and not over top of doors). Would be better linked too, not individually wired. although the inside boxes have just two switches for five lights (two or three on at a time or all of them). You could always have hanging baskets to hide the switches!

Cannot believe how I spelt 'probably'!

I have actually! two spare stables. Gone all out on this project and is becoming vastly expensive.

The best part is a fully insulated tack room so no more damp rugs!

My boys better bloody appreciate it!

I use Energy Saver lightbulbs with guards over them in all my stables, barns, shelters and in the corrals. They work very well and are very cheap to run.

Our lights are just 100w bulbs. Have one in each stable with a plastic cover thing. Also have them outside as well. We also have 'flood lights' (they are from B&Q) on the stables so we can ride in the dark.

I have fully enclosed fluorescent strip lights in the stables, and on the overhang outside the stables, I have put up lcd sunken lights, they look lovely (but as a previous poster said, not directly outside the doors, would blind the horses!)
