Evening everyone

Ok so i moved my horse recently and purchased 3 of the plain stable mats from the previous owner, she kept 3 for her other horse. So i need another 2 whole mats (stable is a funny size, but found some other bits to fill in some gas). So my choices are bubble top or croc top.

The bubble top ones are available from a local shop which is about 8 miles away, the croc top are available from a shop which would be 100 mile round trip, so price probably about the same, maybe croc top would be a bit more.

I don't know where to get plain ones from, so this is not possible. The 2 new ones would be at the front of the stable, but cant decide between croc to pand bubble top. I would be picking them up from the shop. My worry with the bubble top is the sweeping and they can become slippery, although they would only be at the front, the straw bed would cover the plain mats.

Any suggestions, reviews helpful.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by croc top. We have the bumpy top ones, which is the other one you are speaking about, I think. They weren't slippery and were pretty easy to sweep from day one. Eventually the bumps have worn away, and they are now plain mats...

We have ridge&groove Fieldguard ones (so no experience of any others) but looking at the photo,I would imagine the croc top would be harder to sweep than the bubble top?

We have the croc top ones. Been down for 1 year for our 4 horses and I'm very happy with them. Not slippy at all and very easy to sweep.

Hi, sorry didn't notice your reply before! yes the plain ones are still going strong five years on. I thought they may have gone slippy, but they are not shiny anymore and rough, so the horses don't slip. I would buy them again.

TBH I have never seen a horse slip on any mat. We even have a few bubble top ones outside dotted around the gateways/paths we walk on, and they don't slip even on slopes. The only thing that has slipped on them is me running! Probably the same for horses - unless you had a boxwalker that trotted around the stable I wouldn't expect anything to slip..

ps. The croc ones look good, but would probably wear down even quicker.

Actually Honey 08 you are probably right about horses not slipping, it was me that was always going base over apex when I was mucking out !

I have bubble top but flipped them so they have the grooves facing up as the bubble top ones are a devil to sweep when they haven't worn down!

I see you're from Suffolk - try horsemat - I have crock top, they were very easy to cut and drain in both directions and are easy to flip back if you want to air underneath. I think when I was looking for them they were one of the best prices.

Friend has the bubble top ones and I find them really difficult to sweep clean. I have something similar to the croc tops ones and get on well with them. I think it will depend on how big the 'bubbles' are as you can get some very pronounced versions which I think are quite uncomfortable to walk over / difficult to sweep.

Of course, at the end of the day it is down to personal preference and what one person gets on great with another person may hate.
