Evening all,
I'm looking at buying some rubber mats for the stable this winter. I am on a limited budget but have seen some from Mole Valley Farmers within my price range and in are either 12mm or 17mm in thickness. Do you think 12mm is enough or is it worth investing in thicker mats? Also, is it ok to just put mats down in half the stable where the bedding will be? My mare is really tidy with her bed generally and only tends to wee on the bedding as she hates splashback! Thanks in advance.

My mats are 18mm but I think 12mm wouldn't be too bad, they really do help make mucking out easier and 12 would probably still be comfort than concrete if your horse lay down and moved the bedding.

Mine is just half the stable, but I pulled it forward a bit so the back banks are over concrete so more matting is toward the front :)

Btw I got mine off an ebay company and they were local to me, so I picked them up, cost me £84 for 3 mats of 6x4 ft, a lot cheaper than anywhere else I could find!

Why don't you put a wanted add up on preloved and keep an eye out for second hand ones? I've just bought enough second hand ones to kit out both my boxes and to say I got then for a steal is a serious understatement!
