I'd go for non porous & no thinner than 18mm. There are cheaper thinner mats for sale but thin mats are more likely to move & rip due to the twisating & turning of a heavy horse in a stable. I've had the thinner matting in the past & it didn't wear well. My current matting is 6' x 4' x18mm thick, has been down 2 years & is as good as new.

I had my mats from this site but not the interlocking type.

Mine are Aquamats. Very similar to Toby_Z's. 6ft x 4ft x 18mm, non-porous, smooth on the under side and "honey-combed" on the top. Unless you have very, very well drained stables you are best not to go with the porous ones. Also when you fit them, make sure you don't put a join in the doorway as this is the place that gets the most wear and needs to be one complete mat. Ours have been down nearly 4 years (we have never lifted them) - two of our horses are real heavies, one weighs 1 tonne and the other 800 kg. The mats have not worn at all. Hope this helps

I have recently purchased matting for a 12x12 stable from Equimat (who have their sale on at the moment) and I am very pleased with it. It is 20mm thick and seems to suit a non-draining stable like mine.

I did loads of research and got samples etc from companies. Some of the cheaper rubber mats can get really smelly. In the end I went for equimats as although expensive they were lightweight yet really tough. Never regretted it. They are easy to move on your own and although Im supposed to lift them monthly I dont as my stables drain well. It takes less than five minutes to muck out and they make life so easy. If you decide to go for these, make sure you check the size of your stable so they fit well as mine move as they are not fitted!!

Someone is selling some on online H and H at the mo!!!
