Hi all

I am looking to get some stable matting for my very messy boy- he is foul so good drainage is key. He will still have shavings as he won't pee otherwise but could do with some more protection and more drainage.
Could you suggest which is the best and where to buy from? Also what is difference between EVA and rubber matting?? It's a 10ft wide and 13ft long stable

Thanks!

I feel your pain! One of mine is hideous in the stable, ive got all mine on various matting from some that are nearly 20 years old ( and still look like new) one stable on some cheap mats from wynstays( fine and do the job) and two stables on eva interlocking mats, which are fab. Best to look around at different manufacturers, but not all mats are the same. Especially eva mats, best to get good quality ones, mine are equi mats, i got them 2nd hand but they were like new! They are lighter weight than rubber mats so easier to move for cleaning under, but also more cushioned forthe horses feet/legs. Rubber are poss more hard wearing, but mine are nearly all barefoot so dont damage the mats, Another thing to think about when choosing types.

You can get porous stable mats like the ones they use on kiddies playgrounds. They are very thick and heavy and once fitted never move. We have been using them for over 20yrs(same ones!) always with bedding. If used without bedding they will smell but with bedding they never do. Underneath they have sturdy rubber legs all over, and if I lift a mat it is dry underneath and completely odourless, so we never have to take them out and hose them off. Ours came from a company called Stablelite but I'm pretty sure the playground ones are the same.TBH I don't know how people manage with non-porous mats, they always seem slippy to me and I would be worried that our heavy cobs would shift them.
