Stable mirrors

Has anyone used a mirror with any sucess? Any one used one in a horsebox?

My softy boy Sting hates being on his own, and will shout and scream and run round his box if left, he even starts getting himself worked up up when i put a head collar on his pony pal Tom.

He also can be a pain to load on his own and i've ended up draging poor Tommy around with us just so he will load, but its not fair on Tom to stand there all day just to keep Sting happy? do you think a mirror would help him?

Someone (sorry can't remember who) posted about using a stable mirror with great success. Their horse was on box rest and the stable mirror really helped him. They were also going to use one in their lorry. We are just getting a lorry and I plan to use one. You can get them from ebay for approx £25.00 for a stable size and less for one for a trailer.

ive just brought one for my young ish highly strung (!)warmblood. He used to go completly nuts even when another horse was led past his stable. He'd buck in his stable, scream, throw himself at his door. I couldnt do anything with him in his stable, id have to tie him up outside to do everything, he was bargy aswell.

Now hes got his mirror up hes a completly different horse! he loves his 'friend' and i often catch him just standing in front of the mirror staring at himself (i think hes quite vain aswell tho!). I can do everything in the stable with him and i dont even need to tie him up, hes as quiet as anything. If another horse goes past he dosent even bother to look over his door. Hes eating all his food now, whereas he was leaving half of it before and hes just so much more chilled out, it really is fantastic.

Just one thing - make sure you buy one with holes pre-drilled in it. Mine is a 4ft x 4ft one and cost £50 including delivery. My horse is 17'3 tho so i had to get the biggest size.

I use a travel mirror when we arrive at Shows.
He is fine travelling on his own he just doesn't like standing in the box at shows on his own. (I can understand that).
I put the mirror up when we arrive and I see him relax before my eyes.
He looks at the mirror and is like "Oh, Hi handsome,,,,,fancy seeing you here again"!!

I have a mirror in one of my stables, we gave it to the most vain mare Tequila, however she has had to give up her stable for nutty to foal!
Last night nutty amused us by trying to bite the horse in the mirror!!

Tequila likes to groom the mirror, so I have to give cleaning it!!

I posted about my horse on box rest it was a miracle how he changed and its still working worth every penny but my other horse, who is quite agressive, hated it. I've put one in the horsebox and had to cut it with my electric tile cutter to fit the partition but he still paws the ground in the horsebox

joey has a mirror and he has cracked it and it has scratches all over it, god knows what he does to it. always goes to check himself out tho

Hi - I recently attended the national equine forum and a student from Nottingham Trent university did a presentaion on her dissertaion for reducing stress in the travelling horse - her results found that the stable mirror had dramatic effects on reducing stress - almost as much as a live companion. I would recommend one.

I have them in my stable and lorry. If you look on ebay, they are sometimes cheaper in the home/garden bit.
