Do they work?

I have had my new horse for 4 mnths now and he is starting to settle in well.

The only real issue I am having with him is that he gets very stressed if left in the stable on his own - strangely enough he is ok in the field as can see others, but come winter, will have to stay in when I am hunting our other horse as can't guarantee when I get home.

There are other horses on the property but it is only my 2 that are stabled come winter.

He also gets wound up travelling alone so am hoping if a stable mirror works, could rig up something in the lorry too? (I have seen some adhesive mirror on a roll which would be a safer option for a veichle!).

Any thoughts?

There's an interesting bit of research showing that they reduce weaving in stabled horses, will try to find a link.

I got one for my daughters mare when she was on box rest, but she hated it.

Be careful how you introduce it as some horses react strongly to them, said mare would tolerate it outside her stable but attacked it agressively when inside the stable.
Suppose she felt the 'other horse' was invading her home?
She is a sociable, friendly mare, so her reaction was a bit of a surpise.

Suppose they work for some and not for others, like most things!

I know some horses who have hated them but my mare loved it. It stopped her weaving and box walking and her bed became immaculate. I managed to get mine direct from manufacturer for a ridiculous price but even at full price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed it. My mare was so content with her new friend (reflection) that she would stand by it for hours. For all the money I wasted on treat balls etc, the mirror was the cheapest and by far the best buy.

Milty loves seeing his reflection and it can keep him entertained for hours :) however, when he puffs on it and it steams up he just stands there all confused bless him. :D
