Looking into getting my boy a stable mirror after he caught his reflection in the window and thought he was the most handsome horse EVER!

what companies do people recommend?
Dos and donts in regard to where to hang it etc...

Not all horses like them in their stable. I've had to take a couple of mine down after my mare decided she'd double barrell her reflection, and my gelding tried to bite his. But the other two liked theirs. So i'd probably try looking at e-bay or a small one to try first.

I've got two for each of my two and they're both fine with it.

The trick, I was told, was to put it at the same height as the horse's head, i.e. not too low - about the same height as they'd be if they were looking into the old-fashioned stall next door. So basically they don't see the body of (themselves), they see just a head and neck.

I find it does help a stressy horse to settle and particularly helpful if they're on the yard on their own for whatever reason.

I have one stable with a mirror and they either love them or hate them...I had one very stressy little man last year who was much calmer with the mirror, put the retired games pony in the stable when he had been sold and she thought it was the devil in disguise...also put a small mirror on the lorry for same man when travelling, worked a treat, another mare spent the whole journey attacking it! stable mirror now working a treat for a project pony which we are bringing on for a friend. He goes next week, next project pony arrives, who knows?

Strangely in this limited experiment it has been good for boys and very bad for girls...

I just brought mine on ebay, every stable has them

We have a mirror in one of our stables, and it really helps with the little TB who lives in it - she honestly thinks it's another horse, she is always making fierce faces as her reflection, but it does seem to comfort her when she's on her own in the yard.

Thanks guys, will give one a go. Have seen them on eBay for about £20 which I didn't think was too bad. I've also seen the mirrored rolls with an adhesive backing but not sure if they're particularly reflective or more like a comedy funfair mirror! (Which in itself could be very entertaining ;) )

Dont bother with the rolls, very quickly tarnish and are then worse than useless, have a proper stable mirror in each stable, fab things, my old girl used to stress so much when she came in for the winter, she's 30, and for the first 15 or so years she box walked for the first 3-4 weeks of comming in at night, that was untill stable mirrors started being made, she has been like a different horse ever since, still slightly stressy but doesnt box walk much, rather stands and touches her friend in the mirror, so much better for her and they all have one in their stables now, put up at about head height they are around 1.5ft wide by approx 2ft high, wouldnt be without them now :)
