I am changing to shavings this weekend, my dad is going to look at lots of different types later this week to decide what we should get...
it'll be shavings,paper,wood or similar...
would you recommend rubber mats? They are in old pig barns so large stables... so would probably just have about 4 at the front, but they are SO expensive for just 2 months as he will be out in May time... is there an alternative?
Also how many bales do you think we should order? i reckon about 10 to start with and then one a week? So about 20?

Thanks

yes to the mats big time! we use them not only in stables but also to stack haylage bales on to stop em getting spiked by the ridged concrete!

but we normally put them at the back not the front as thats where we put the bedding and they wee and poop.

Probably 6-8 to start with but you might need more than one a week as top up, depends on how dirty the horse. mine needed 3 a week but now on Aubiose/wood pellet mix we only use one aubiose and 1 wood pellet.

If you are not too far away I have some second hand stable mats for sale - they are in good condition, just need a good scrub - let me know if you are interested, if you are not too far away I can deliver them.
