Hi guys
We have just moved onto our own yard and wondering if anyone has any money saving ideas on how to do up stables and fencing? The owners live 600 miles away and we have taken it on with view to buy. However until we do buy the money spent needs to be minimum.
the yard has 8 acres of good grazing but poor fencing, 2 stables which are semi solid but need some tlc such as internal panels replacing & new felt on roof.

We have set up a water catcher from the guttering and have one large tank but will get another as with all the rain it's already full!

Also any advice on where I can buy lights that don't need electric as no power up there

im after any tips on fence & stable repair if at all possible!

Thanks all :)

Hi There

A good secure but cheap fencing that I have done myself is a decent electric rope or tape, preferable rope as it is cheaper and easier to install and maintain.
You can borrow or buy a second hand fence post wanger/banger/whaker, whatever it is called fairly cheaply and install wooden fence posts yourself.
Wooden fence posts can be bought fairly cheaply from your local timber yard and the rope fittings for the fencing can be found cheaply on ebay or at tack stores. They come in tubs of about 50+ and can be easily screwed into the post without the need for power tools. A min of 3 strands of good rope is preferable.
Doing things cheaply can be very expensive in the long run but if you shop around are prepared for some hard work it need not be expensive.
Building stables need not be expensive either, you can use reclaimed railway sleepers if set down correctly or even by second hand internal stables.
To save money on roofing in the short term buy some Tarp and cover the whole roof using cable ties to secure to the guttering or something secure. I did this last October and so far it has been fantastic, the stables are bone dry. You can get some really large tarp so there should be something suitable out there.
Also if you cannot build foundations or so for stable walls, invest in a good piece of timber and secure to the floor. then you can attach panels and other timber to this quite easily.
Good Luck :)
