Stable rugs recommendations - are any good at regulating temperature?

Hi everyone,

I'm keen to get my horse a new stable rug or two.

Can anyone recommend any that are good at maintaining a constant temperature (tricky in these times of fluctuating climate!)?

I hate the idea of her being too hot, so wondered if there were any magic fabrics out there which are good at keeping them warm in the cold, but won't overheat them if the weather suddenly turns?

What i tend to do is buy several different weights of stable rug - then when i get to the yard after work i check my weather app on my phone to see what temperature it will be that night and choose my rugs accordingly :)

I do a similar thing, but as she's on full livery and there are some days a week I can't get there I thought a decent rug might put my mind at rest! I am a worrier though!
 
I do the same as forestfantasy. Though I prefer the slidy liner to the fleecy liner. My favourite stable rug is Amigo.
 
The Bucas rugs are very tempting... Although far more expensive than the Amigos!

Do you find that the Celtic Extra one is thick enough for really cold days (its 300g) or do you need an extra layer?
 
I dont know if they are still arounf but I remeber a buzz about micro-tec tec rugs (i think they were called that) that regulated temp, not sure if they are still made though! might be easier just to get a few different stable rugs, or maybe use a wicking fleece or something

I was going to suggest the Bucas ones. They are very expensive though. If I needed new rugs and could spare the cash, that is what I would buy.

I don't actually have the 'extra' version.

I have the lightweight (so the shell with the fleece lining) and the mediumweight (150g with fleece lining) plus detachable hood. I use them either on their own or in combination.

My clipped out working horse wore just the MW combo + LW all through the recent very cold spell without feeling cold and wears the same now even though its 8-10oC milder or so, without overheating.

Unless you have a very cold, thin skinned TB type, I'd be pretty confident the extra rug would be fine on it's own in sub zero.
