Stable rugs! Which one!?!

My horse nearly broke his leg from this fear, have you had a similar experience?

Ellie has ripped her medium weight Masta Regal stable rug; I dont think it is worth getting it repaired - the tear is not on a seam, and as it is eight years old, it is beginning to look a wee bit tatty! I want to buy the same 'model' of rug as, if I'm honest, it is the only rug I have ever found that fits her perfectly.

The thing is, I didnt expect to have a choice of weights and colours!

The one I have now is medium weight, but in the winter she still tends to have two other rugs underneath. I aim to take the fleece off around April time, leaving her with just the Masta and a summer sheet underneath. Then if she's in during the summer, I tend to leave her with either just the fleece on or a summer sheet if its really warm. I have looked into the current Masta range, and have found that they also do a lightweight Regal stable rug - if I bought this one, I could use this now over the top of her summer sheet during the day, and then possibly even instead of the fleece during the summer, whereas a medium weight would be too warm for the summer months. I then may or may not have to buy a heavier style one for next winter, dependent on whether the lightweight Masta would be warm enough with other rugs underneath. Added to this is the fact that the lightweight stable rug comes in two colours: plum or aubergine! Ooooh, decisions decisions!
Money is no issue in terms of which one I choose, but I wouldnt mind some ideas about which one would be best for the time of year and overall versatility; also opinions on colour would be good!

That is a good plan......

My line of thinking was that I could buy the lightweight one now (they have it at ODS just up the road from me) and then perhaps get the heavier one if there are any 'bargains' at Badminton....

i would get one of each if you can afford it.! the less weight in rugs a horse has to have on their back in any weather, the better.. good excuse to go shopping at badders IMO..
