Can anyone recommend a nice medium weight stable rug with detachable neck cover please? Not gussetted in the shoulder.

What sort of weight ?

I still love the Mark Todd stable rugs, but im not entirely sure how heavy they come up. It springs to mind particularly since ive just washed it and going into it's third winter, its come up good as new.

Its the ultimate I have also but i think its quite heavy? Its really hard for me to judge though since my silly horse feels the cold so much that he'll be having his on in the next week.

Either way.. they seem to wear incredibly well!

Medium weight.

Have ordered a Rambo Duo - but I think I should have a stable rug as well for the little lad.....

Going off to look at the Mark Todd ones.

I like Fal for warmbloods and rhino (horseware) stable rugs for TB's. Both wear extremely well and come up like new when washed.

I try to get ones with a dark lining so that any marks don't show up as much when the rugs get older.

Fal Slumberdown are good and have zip out hoods, but I'm sure mine is gussetted......

Yes, the slumberdown rugs are lovely - I had one for Freddy. But yes they are gussetted, and so won't fit the lad.

If you have £150 to spare, the Fal Saracen rugs have a zip-off neck, don't have a gusset and are really nice! But expensive...!
Can I ask (just curiosity) why gusseted rugs don't fit your horse? I've never found a horse yet that doesn't go well inside a gusseted rug!

The Mark Todd ones are beautiful, fit well, stay in place & are a good price.
Had a couple of m/w ones in navy & airforce blue & they were so soft & tactile & looked really expensive!
Pretty sure they didn't have a shoulder gusset but not sure about the detachable neck cover part?
I think they were 225g that we had & they really were lovely!

Well, I bought a LW Mark Todd TO rug for him - which has gussets, and it is just the most awful fit on him.

I think that because he is lacking in top line they just don't sit well on him - and the fit around the front is dire.

I've popped a couple of different rugs on him that aren't gussetted, and they fit him much better.

He has such a wapping shoulder that I thought he'd need a rug with a gusset - but they're just not great on him.....

That's interesting. My mare has a huge shoulder and had no topline either when she came to me, and the Mark Todd turnouts fitted her perfectly (the stable ones don't though). I did try a Weatherbeeta Freestyle on her which was just awful, but the Weatherbeeta stable rugs fit her really, really well (both the Jasper non-gusseted ones and the Belmont gusseted ones). I suppose there just isn't a "rule" to stick to when buying rugs!
