Stable size

Bit narrow, but if only in at night then it would be ok for such a small pony, but I would want a 10 x 10 min if the pony had to be in long periods, ie days of little or no turnout.

As a comparision, my stable is 9'6 x 14'3 and my 15.1 cob is fine in it, ditto my OH's 16.3clydesdale who is in a 11'9 x 12.3 stable. They live out six months of the year and are out every other day in winter, with school turnout on the days they don't go out and are fine in these stables, they can happily turn round and move and to be honest, spent most of their time with their heads stuck in their haybars when in or sleeping.

Not ideally no, BHS recommend min of 10 x 10 for smaller ponies. (guess this could be 8x12 and be ok). 6 foot 6 sounds just toooooooo small to me?

 The BHS would have forty fits if they saw some North American stables then!

12'x 12' is advertised as 'airy' and basically, at some places, if a horse fits through the door, and can turn around then the concensus of opinion seems to be that the stall is fine. A trainer I got a horse from kept 16h Quarter Horses in 10 x 10's. Mine are 10 x 11 and I've had owners who have been happy to have draft horses in them.

My goat pen is 10' x 6.6' and sometimes, if space is limited, I'll put a 40" shetland in there and she's quite happy. My welsh A used to manage very happily in an 8' x 8'

If the pony was 'stalled', as in tied in a 6'6" x 10" there would be no qualms about it at all, I wouldn't have a problem with a stable that size, if the pony didn't, not ideal but not the end of the world at a push.

If the pony can turn around then that is the real requirement and although small I do think an 11hh pony could easily turn around in that space.

My feeling is that that is really too small. I would agree that 10 x 10 would be the minimum for a small pony.

My 16.2hh ID /TB has a 24ft x 12ft stable and the 13.2hh pony has a 14ft square stable - I didn't design them they are 100 year old brick / slate stables.

It really does hinge though on how long the pony would be stable for as to what is, is not acceptable.

It is a hang up of mine that I hate to see horses stabled all day - mine are out 24/7 (with shelter) from April - November and then stabled just at night.

Not saying for one moment that this is right and any other way is wrong - just my personal hang up like I say. I'm lucky though because my girls are at home so I can do as I please.

Should have added more detail, he is only in at night at the moment, turned out at about 7am and comes in between 6.30pm and 7pm on a night, should be living out all the time soon. At present he is in a 10x10 stable but I am after getting something a bit bigger for me.

Yes it should be fine, he has far more space relatively speaking than the Clydie belonging to the person who said that your stable was too small whilst the Clydie was fine in an 11'9 x 12'3 stable.

My Section A has a similar sized stable and is quite happy to do all the normal horsy things of lying down and rolling in hers

My 11.2hh british riding pony will be moving into a 7' wide by 14' long stable in the next month so I can take the wall down between his and my mares stable so her and foalie when it arrives can have 24' by 12' for them selves. He is absolutely fine in this space and can still do the normal things of rolling and running around. Having said that he is only in 4'3" rugs as a 5 year old and is very finely built.
