Stable sizes? What do you think

Hi all,
Can I pick brains again ??
I have just moved house and have a 30ft long and 20 ft wide barn at my new house that I am going to build stables in ( and looking outside at the weather I better crack on with it !!!!).
I need to create 2 stables for my 2 "big"ones and a smaller one for my 2 mini Shetlands !
The first plan has 2 big stables of 11ft wide and 18 ft deep and a smaller one of 8 ft x 10 ft for the little ones.
My question is is 11 ft wide too tight for a 17 3" and a 16 2".
Even though they ahve the depth my gut feeling is it is too narrow.
I think I have just answered my own question but would appreciate any thoughts ?
 
I'm also about to build 15 x 15s. This is for 14.2s but I can't abide small stables with no room to do anything. They are in a 15 x 18 and a 20 x 20 at the moment and I will really miss the extra space!

You could always pop a lean to on for the small ponies and divide the barn for your two big horses, plus a bit for storage.
 
I think it depends on your horse. I had to keep my 16h MW mare in a 10x10' stable one winter while the planners were messing us about, and she did fine, she is not a stupid horse though, and knew she couldn't roll, but laid down regularly. I wouldn't have put hubby's larger and less "switched on" horse in a small stable though. When we built the new stables, we had one 12x12, a 18x12 and two 14x12 stables. Hubby's big 17h hunter chunk fits perfectly well in the 12x12, he has tons of room in the 14x12. I am seriously thinking of losing a foot and lining the wooden stables with a brick wall too.

Brilliant ideas everyone and thank you all for your help as always ! Just had a remeasure last night and have got 2 really good size stables now. Thanks again for taking the time to respond ! Guess what I am doing at the weekend xxx!!!!!!
