i really want to work in a racing yard put my parents are trying to put me off because of the pay saying i will never earn enough to live on

so how much do stable staff get paid?

If you want to work with horses the racing industry is the probably your best option. You have free on going training for your NVQ levels 1-3. The trade union is the best in the equine sector so racing stable staff have better working conditions and rate of pay than other yards such as eventing. Look at the National Association of Stable Staff website for current details on rates of pay, ect and the careers in racing website for more information on working in the industry. Just remember only national hunt and flat yards are covered by the BHA regulations agreed with NASS so point to point yards are not covered by the same minimum wages and recommended working hours and conditions.
As for earning enough to live off if you work you way up through, and get your NVQ 3 and transport qualifications you can be on a solid wage, with accommodation, and the opportunity to earn good over time money and bonuses by taking horses racing and through pool money. Hope this helps.
