Horse on box rest for a long period of time, he has a decahedron which he loves, but it doesn't last too long before he's got all the treats out. Has anyone any experience of the likit thing (ball and lik) which hangs from the ceiling, or the wall fixed one?? I'm debating which one will be best to get?
Thanks guys!

I have one of the ones that hang, and she only ever gets one at xmas or birthdays. They are good as a treat but I wouldn't give them regualry to any horse and my horse has an amazing ability to eat them quicker then you can get that annoying plastic wrapping off! The are like giving them 20 packets of polos!
You could try hiding little bits of veg in his bed?

Yeah, I think I'll try the apples/carrots in bed and haynets thing thats a good idea. Do you think the wall mounted likit (might be called tongue twister) is better and lasts longer than the ceiling hanging one?

Sugar-free uncle Jimmy's Hanging Balls all the way... They last for ages and won't fizz up a confined beast! Highly recommended by Dobbin who loves his decahedron!

I seconf the Uncle Jimmy treat ball thingys, they last for ages. My old horse loved them, he wouldn;t touch the likits, I gave them to the horse opposite (after asking the owner obviously) and he demolished it within hours! The uncle Jimmys are long lasting plus they won't heat your horse up with tons of sugar:)

They are not cheap about £10 if I remember, but they do honestly last so much longer than a likit would so worth it.

I tend to avoid lick-Its as 1. he gets covered in Sugar Syrup and I then have to chip it off and 2 he gets like a toddler who has had a packet of Blue Smarties!

What I do is to buy apples, swedes, turnips, big carrotts in fact anything you can use an apple corer on put an old lickit string through the holes and hang up.

Lasts longer and better for him, although the first time he was hit in the face by the weight of 4 Swedes swinging back was a bit of a shock for him!

I had one for years, Dylan never figured out how to work it properly so I took it down. He used to just get it pinned against the wall and attack it with his teeth so it lasted minutes lol. And he has never understood the little likits that go in the hanging ball!

(Bear in mind that this is the horse who took 8 months to figure out how to work his decahedron, so it may just be that he's a *bit* slow lol)

4 hanging Swedes with holes through them??? *scarpers*

The likit treat ball takes them longer to get the food out than the decahedron as it has 2 layers for the feed to get through. My horse love the likit boredom breaker and if you put them in the ball (not the hanging bit) it takes her a lot longer to get through.

I looked into likits....but was horrified at the amount of sugar in them and the horses seem to go through them in seconds.....it cant be good for them all that sugar.
I ended up geting a hymalaya salt lick. Its like a big rock with a hole in the middle so you can hang it, tie it up etc and they dont decintergrate even when wet like the normal salt licks do and i have to admit its been fab! he loves it whether its licking it, resting his nose on it or using as a scratiching tool!
