I was thinking of getting my youngster a stable toy as he only goes out for 5 hours a day and that's only on days it's not frosty, icy, snowing etc and i'm worried about him getting bored and starting a stable vice...he's already a nibbler!!!

He has a large haynet to keep him going until i get down there in the evening. I also leave radio 2 on for him!!!

I can't have a snack ball as his stable floor is covered completley by easibed and he ends up digging the base up...I didn't want to start him on the lick-it toys as they are full of sugar and i don't need any extra reasons for him to be full of life and drag me to the field!!!

I was looking at a Jolly Ball. As far as i can tell it's like a football with a handle. The website says it won't pop even when booted across the stable.

Has anyone had any experience with a Jolly Ball or i've seen a giant scented apple toy on Ebay which you can either hang up or put it on the floor, but is hard plastic.

He has a fruit and veg kebab everyother day.
 
I tried all sorts with my mare but she doesn't like any of them so bought her a himalayan salt lick and she loves it! Got her the NAF one and it lasts loads longer than the lick it toys which she used to just bite lumps out of.

The TongueTwister is great (takes little likkits) but because it rotates it will last for ages so they can't gobble the treat up in one go.

Jolly balls are good but horses tend to get bored of them quite quickly, the apple scented one would be better as it would be more tempting.
 
my big lad pins the tongue twisted with his nose and scrapes the liks out with his teeth in 30 seconds flat
and the big likits he bites in half and its gone in the same amount of time
I lethim play apple bobbing in his water, hang up swedes, and give him a ock n roll ball with carrots and apples etc and have to compromise on him digging his bed up a bit.
he also has access to a salt lick all the time
 
My 6 month old foal has a jolly ball in his stable at night which he takes great delight in playing with - his mother is not so amused at being hit by the ball that he chucks about the stable with great delight and chases it lol - if she is not being hit by the ball, it is him bumping into her trying to catch it!! she manages to put up with it with her usual long suffering face, highly amusing to watch though!

I'm having a nightmare keeping my yearling and 5 year old entertained whilst it's icey and have resorted to...
- Hanging a Jollyball for the yearling and wedging carrots in the handle, last night she was rearing and bucking at it! Kept her busy for ages. She also has a snack-a-ball.
- My five year old has multiple small haynets in different locations in his stable. I hide chopped carrots in the haynets so he gets a treat every now and then. He also has a Jollyball to take his aggression out on, 2 lickits (don't normally like these but ok for this reason, as long as they are free hanging i haven't had anyone that gorges themselves) and a snack-a-ball. I am breaking the day up with grooming/straping sessions and time with the massage pad on...he loves it all but what about us?!
Any tips for bored house-bound riders??!!
 
Jolly balls can be destroyed if your horse sits on them!!!!!!!!! I found my mare sitting on hers (yes she is a bit odd!) and it was completly deflated, and I was unable to refill it with air. I have also known horses chew through the handles aswell!!!!!!!!
 
The only stable toy my horse ever loved was a small-ish football, but only because he used to love throwing it out at people as they walked past

Funnily enough, it disappeared as did others I bought!
 
I've put this on another reply, but I use one of the balls from http://www.nagsproducts.co.uk/ - my mare is on six months (at least!) box rest, and I give her this with cut up carrots every other day - just make sure that it is hung up so it doesn't reach the wall or else the carrots go too quickly and don't keep her occupied for long enough!
