New horse came with nothing, so I've bought 2 medium and heavyweight turnout rugs off YO as she's never used them, being too small for her horse.

Could I leave neddy with his turnout rug on in the stable, as my new YO suggests, apparently that is what everyone at new yard does, as it makes turning out easier in the morning. Or do I need to buy him 2 more stable rugs and pay extra to have them change his rugs for morning turnout/bring in?

At the moment - I wouldnt leave my horse with a rug on during the day anyway - its not that cold!!! But, in the winter, I leave turnout rugs on in the stable (pressuming they arent wet through). They do the same job - and have saved a fortune in rugging!

Thanks GB! I was facing a good sobbing over the state of my bank account and the prospect of more rugs to buy!

I guess if they are wet through I can just hang the rug upto dry for an hour or so, and put a thin cooler underneath just in case.

They shouldnt really get soaked through - mine never have done. My horse is on assisted DIY, so the YO turns out for me in the mornings, and said it is so much easier when I leave his t/o rug on for her - headcollar on and off he goes!

) all my horses wear their turnouts all night / all day. Never had a problem - you can breathe a sigh of relief over the state of your bank account now

We use the silver lined dual purpose FAL rugs. Brilliant rugs, never move, slip or rub and means no stable stains seep through either, like they can do with stable rugs because of the waterproof outer.

We always make sure they are taken off and replaced morning and night.
