If anyone knows of any stables or a yard to rent, he is next to a mare at his current yard and its causing no end of problems. He got himself so stressed he now has injured a ligament . The people with the mare will not move stables and there is absolutely nowhere else the stallion can go.

He is normally very good, but gets himself so stressed with the mare she is worried he will have to be pts if she can't find anywhere for him to go.

No disrespect or offence intended at all L154, but stallions ARE a problem and they often have wretched lives simply because of it. 2 liveries from my yard went for a hack up the mountain at the weekend and a stallion in a remote field heard them on the public path and charged them and came right through the hedge and everyone was screaming and it could have been a terrible, terrible situation. Why doesn't your friend have her stallion gelded?

She has had the vet to consider the gelding him option, but he is 13 now and they don't think it will change his behaviour now - he's covered quite a few mares in his time.

I know most yards will not consider stallions, just thought I'd ask just in case.

Lisa, I worked in a showjumping yard and they used to geld horses later in life, it really depends on the horse but it should stop him getting so wound up, why is he still entire anyway? And surely the mare is getting distressed also, I just dont understand why some people are so possessive about a stable, as long as its secure and dry does it really matter?

I hope she sorts it out.

She is going to have to consider gelding him again, the situation is mad! Our yard is horrendously bitchy, and people are extremely posessive over stables!! Its not like there is'nt room to build/make him a seperate stable/pen, so owner is really upset as no one else give a s**t.

He's still entire cos she uses him for covering mares.
