Stable yard - hardcore?

Hello,

I have my horses at home and theyre currently in mobile stables and so not on concrete. The ground theyre on is flat/they're rubber matted but I'd quite like to get some sort of surface outside for the winter months.

I currently cant tie up outside either which is very annoying as no matter how tight I tie them they still are insistent that they can reach the grass below.. :rolleyes: Would therefore like approx 7/8ft of the stuff outside the stables so that I have ample room to tie up.

Had considered bark as its cheap/free in most cases but also wondered about any form of type one etc that would then be hard but not going against any planning permission etc.

Planeings would work but you would have to be careful of planning ,
But have you considered using grass mats they should work and I can't see the how anyone could complain about those .
 
Thanks, will have a look at road plannings - have never knowingly heard of them! (ETS oh yes, I know what they are! Definitely think planning may be required though, but if its fairly pain free might be worth a go!)

I did think about the grass mats too - haven't ever seen any 'in action,' but will definitely be picking up a few for my gates anyway so I'll see how they fare.

Grass matts can be a bit expensive. They can work, but also hold water under them and end up a bit muddy. I'm currently trying 6mm recycled dust. works nicely but does tend to wash away a bit. works best on a slight incline otherwise water can sit on the top.

That was one of my concerns re: grass matting. Thanks for the suggestion on the 6mm RD, will have a look now.
