Stable yard surface - any experience of tar bonded stone?

Hi, I'm new to the forum & was looking for some advice from those of you with your own stables.
We've just built a new U-shaped stable block with a 6ft concrete apron round it but haven't surfaced the centre of the yard as have been debating what to put on it. The obvious (& expensive) option is to concrete the whole lot but realise this is the probably the best way to keep the yard looking neat & tidy.
I've had a quote from Countrystyle Surfacing (they've had the full page ad in the back of H&H for the last 2 weeks) for a tar bonded stone surface which would be cheaper - does anyone else have experience of this surface - is it suitable for a stable yard? Pros / Cons etc?
Also has anyone used Countrystyle Surfacing??
All ideas welcome!
 
Im not sure what Tar bonded stone Is? Is it similar to road scalpings?
If so that's what I used and its ok in that it stopped mud and provided a dry hard standing area. In some places its become very solid similar to concrete and can be swept but otherwise I use a grass rake with does a reasonable job.
 
Is that the stuff that looks like pea gravel stuck to the floor? I was on a yard that had that - big issue was sweeping it - you couldn't so it either looked really messy (covered in hay/ shavings) or you picked up the bits by hand.
The owners wanted it looking tidy so there were mad rules about putting haynets in builders bags to carry them about!
 
Rubber matting?- If its level and hard enough.

Or a yard I worked on had thick rubber tiles (brick sized) red and black in some kind of pattern effect which looked good and did a great job.

Sorry - look for something else then - even grass would be better as you can cut and rake that to keep it tidy.

The YM on the yard I was on tried everything (leaf blower, rubber squeegy type broom etc.) and it still looked a mess, even though they were ultra careful about getting anything on it!
